How I came to yoga
Yoga has been part of my life for more than eight years, long before I ever thought of teaching it.
I studied Advertising and Marketing at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, then stayed on and built a career in corporate advertising. It was a life of deadlines and competing demands, and yoga became the constant that kept me grounded. It never took me away from that life. It helped me meet it with more steadiness.
I tell the longer story, in my own words, in the About section on the homepage.
My training
In 2024 I traded the pace of New York for travel across Asia. Along the way I sat a 10-day Vipassana silent meditation retreat and completed my 200-hour teacher training at House of Om in Bali. I later became certified in prenatal and postnatal (postpartum) yoga through Doula School International, and what that certification covered has a page of its own.
I began teaching in 2026. What I bring to every lesson is my own years on the mat, and my full attention on the person in front of me.
My path, in order
- New York. Studied Advertising and Marketing at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
- New York. Built a corporate advertising career in New York.
- Eight years and counting. More than eight years of my own practice, before and alongside everything else.
- 2024. Left New York to travel across Asia, and sat a 10-day Vipassana silent meditation retreat.
- Bali. Completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training at House of Om.
- Certification. Certified in prenatal and postnatal (postpartum) yoga through Doula School International.
- 2026. Began teaching private lessons in Metro Manila.
How I teach
Before there were studios, a teacher looked at the person in front of them and changed the practice to fit. That is how I teach. There is no fixed class plan: each lesson starts with how you are feeling that day, and we build from there.
Most often that means Yin yoga with long, supported holds for people who rarely get to slow down, gentle postpartum lessons for the months after birth, and breath-led Vinyasa when you would rather move.
Who I teach
I teach anyone who wants to practise. Women and men, people in their twenties and people well past retirement, complete beginners and people who have practised for years. If you have never done yoga, private yoga for first-timers is where most people start.
I teach one person, a household, a few friends or an office. Some students come to me in pregnancy, with prenatal lessons at home, or after birth, with yoga in the months after your baby arrives. Some come in a heavy season at work, for private yoga through stress and burnout. Couples and friends share a private lesson for two, with partner poses if you both want them.
Beyond private yoga, online and in person, I teach yoga for teams at their office, private events such as bridal showers, birthdays and brand days, retreats, and hospitality programmes for hotels and residences. I teach in English.
Where I teach
I live in Rockwell, and I come to you: your home, your condo, your building’s function room or your office. You can see every area I teach in Metro Manila, starting with private yoga in Rockwell, where I am based.
Close to home, that can mean lessons at your condo in Salcedo Village, or an early start before work if you want a private yoga teacher in Legaspi Village. Further out, I give yoga lessons at home in Kapitolyo and yoga lessons at home in McKinley Hill. I travel north if you are looking for a private yoga teacher in Eastwood, and down to Manila Bay for lessons at your condo in Pasay and the Bay Area.
What I don’t do
I am a yoga teacher, not a physiotherapist, a doctor or any kind of medical professional, and a lesson is never medical treatment.
If you are pregnant, check with your OB or midwife before we start. After birth, we begin once your OB or midwife has cleared you to exercise.
How these pages are written
Everything on this site is here so you can decide, before you message me, whether a lesson with me is right for you. This is how the pages are made and kept honest.
- Who writes them. The lesson pages come from my own words and my own training. Some of the Learn pages were drafted with help, then checked against my training and the facts on this site.
- Who reviews them. I read the pages that speak for me. Some are still marked for my review: they wait for my check, and I change anything that is not how I teach. No doctor, physiotherapist or midwife reviews these pages, and none of them is medical advice. The health disclaimer for yoga lessons sets out what a lesson is and is not.
- The dates. “Updated” under a Learn page is the day its content last changed. “Last reviewed” is the day it was last checked against the facts here: my training, the price, the areas and the hours.
- Corrections. If something is wrong or out of date, tell me on Viber or email joahnnalee.hello@gmail.com. I correct the page and change its date.
Come and say hello
You can find me on Instagram and TikTok. When you are ready, message me on Viber. If you would like to know what a lesson costs and includes first, it is all on private yoga prices.
