A yoga party for a bridal shower or a birthday

Joahnna Lee leads private yoga parties for bridal showers and birthdays across Metro Manila: a gentle class for the guests, then a sound bath, at home, in a condo function room or in a hotel suite. Team and event classes are quoted on inquiry: send one on Viber at +63 968 190 0429 or email joahnnalee.hello@gmail.com.

A yoga party is a celebration that starts slowly. Your guests arrive, roll out a mat, move through a gentle class together, and then lie down for a sound bath lying down.

I plan each party around the occasion, the place and the people coming. Every party is quoted on inquiry, so send me the date, the place and the number of guests, and I reply with a plan and a quote.

What happens at a yoga party?

  1. Arrival. Guests arrive, change if they need to and find a mat.
  2. A gentle class. Slow, breath-led movement that anyone can follow, with an easier and a stronger version of each shape.
  3. A sound bath. Everyone lies down, gets comfortable and listens. Nobody has to do anything.
  4. Food and time together. Guests sit up slowly, and the party carries on with lunch, merienda or cake.

Bridal showers: a slow class before lunch

A bridal shower falls in a busy season for a bride. A yoga party gives her, and the friends around her, a morning where nothing is asked of them.

I keep the class gentle, so the bride’s grandmother and her most athletic friend both enjoy it. The sound bath comes next, then lunch.

Birthdays: start on the mat, end in a sound bath

For a birthday, a yoga party is a way to spend the day with people rather than just in the same room as them. It suits a milestone, or someone who would rather not be the centre of a loud party.

The class can move a little more than at a shower, if the guests want that, and it always ends lying down in the sound bath. Afterwards, the cake. A morning party leaves the rest of the day free; an early evening one lets the sound bath end as the light goes. I plan the class to suit either. If the birthday person is the only one who has done yoga before, that is fine: I teach to the room, not to the most practised person in it.

Where it works: at home, a condo function room, a hotel suite

A yoga party needs a clear, quiet floor with room for every guest’s mat: a sala with the furniture pushed back, a shaded patio, a condo function room or a hotel suite.

In the south, a village house often has space for a small group: see private yoga at home in Alabang for what that looks like. By the bay, hotel suites and function rooms are an easy choice for guests travelling in: read more on private lessons by Manila Bay in Pasay.

Tell me in your inquiry whether the venue has mats, and we agree how mats are covered for your guest count before the date is confirmed.

How many guests, and what they wear

The number of guests depends on the floor. Send me a photo of the room and I tell you honestly how many mats fit.

Guests should wear something soft and stretchy they can move and lie down in, and bring a light layer for the sound bath, because a still body cools down. Bare feet are fine.

If a guest is pregnant, she is welcome. She should check with her OB or midwife first, and she sits out anything unsuitable; my prenatal yoga lessons at home and the health notes behind every lesson explain how I work with pregnancy.

I ask for your consent before anyone is filmed or photographed. Mention any photos or video in your inquiry. I teach in English.

How to ask for a quote

Use the inquiry form on this page. It copies the details and opens Viber, or you can send them by email. Include the occasion, the date, the place, the number of guests and roughly how long you have. I reply with a few questions, then a quote.

A yoga party has no public price. If what you want is a lesson for just you, the price of a private lesson is published. For two, a private lesson for couples at home may suit better than a party. Questions from HR and event teams

How long should a yoga bridal shower be?

As long as your programme allows. Tell me how much time you have between arrivals and lunch, and I fit the class and the sound bath inside it, with room for guests to settle and to get up slowly afterwards.

Can guests who have never done yoga join a yoga party?

Yes. I teach the class for the least experienced person in the room, with an easier and a stronger version of each shape, so nobody is left out and nobody is bored.

Can the yoga party be a surprise for the bride?

Yes. Plan it with me on Viber or by email, and I send you a short note for the guests on what to wear, so only the bride is surprised.

Can we add food and drinks after the class?

Yes, and most hosts do. Keep heavy food for after the sound bath rather than before the class.

Message from a guest: I really appreciate you for holding a space for powerful women. It's not everyday that we get to have that person who would take care of our well being. You made me feel so loved. I am looking forward for next events like this. I hope you would continue with your passion. It is such an awesome experience. You pour you heart to it. Thank you for showing so much love for us.
