Yoga for two

Private yoga for two, at home

Joahnna Lee teaches private yoga for two at your home or condo in Metro Manila: a couple, two friends, or a parent and a grown child sharing one lesson planned for both of you. A lesson for two has no public rate: message Joahnna Lee on Viber at +63 968 190 0429 for the price.

A lesson for two is one of my favourite ways to teach: two people, one room, one practice that fits you both. It might be you and your partner, two close friends, or a mother and a daughter.

There is no public rate for two. Message me for the price, and tell me who is joining. If you would like to compare first, what a private lesson costs for one person is published in full, and you can book a lesson for two on Viber when you are ready.

What does a lesson for two look like?

It looks like any private lesson with me, with two mats instead of one. I come to your home or condo with the mats and props. We start by talking: how each of you is feeling, what your bodies have been doing lately, and anything that hurts. Then we move together through a practice I build for the pair of you, and it ends the way every lesson ends: savasana, a mini massage for the neck and shoulders, and sound healing to close.

Two bodies, two levels: how one practice fits both

Couples rarely arrive at the same place. One of you may have practised for years and the other has not touched a mat since school. That is normal, and it is why a private lesson suits two better than a class does.

I shape every lesson around the person in front of me. With two people, I simply do that twice. You share the same sequence and the same breath, but each of you gets your own version of each shape: a block under one hand, a deeper bend for the other, a rest when one of you needs it. If you are both new, starting yoga from zero explains how I teach first-timers. If you both want something slow, a restorative lesson with bolsters and blankets works just as well for two.

Partner shapes: optional, never the point

I do teach partner poses, such as a seated twist where you hold each other’s hands, a forward fold where one of you gives the other a gentle, steady press, back-to-back breathing to open a lesson.

They are never required. If either of you would rather keep to your own mat, we keep to our own mats, and the lesson is no less for it. Either of you can say no without explaining.

Space at home for two mats

You need a clear patch of floor for two mats side by side, with some room around them. In a condo that usually means moving the coffee table; in a house, a sala or a covered patio has room to spare.

In McKinley Hill, for example, several villages have a garden or clubhouse that suits two mats, which is worth asking your association about if you want private yoga in McKinley Hill outside the unit. There is no transport fee anywhere in Metro Manila.

A few practical things, for any lesson with me. I teach in English. I ask for your consent before anyone is filmed or photographed. No cancellations. To reschedule, message me at least 24 hours before your lesson.

How to ask about a lesson for two

Message me on Viber. Tell me who is joining, roughly how much yoga each of you has done, where you are in Metro Manila and which days suit you. I reply with the price for two and a few times that work. If one of you is pregnant or injured, tell me then. If you are planning something bigger, such as a bridal shower or a birthday with friends, a yoga party for a group of guests is quoted separately.

If you want to know what happens from the first message to the last minute of the lesson, read what to expect from a first private lesson.

Questions about couples yoga

Do we both need to be at the same level?

No. Most pairs are not. I plan one practice with a version of each shape for each of you, so the more experienced person still works and the newer one is never left behind.

Is couples yoga the same as acro yoga?

No. Acro yoga is a separate practice built on lifts and balances on a partner. A lesson for two with me is a yoga lesson you share, with partner shapes only if you both want them. If acro is what you have in mind, say so in your first message.

How much space do two mats need at home?

Enough floor for two mats side by side with an arm's length between them, and a little room at each end. Moving a coffee table is usually all it takes. If the unit is tight, a function room in your building works too.

Message from a student: Thank you for such a beautiful, relaxing, and healing session. I didn't expect it to move me this much. It felt like a gentle release I didn't know I needed. Hoping to join another yoga sesh soon!
